The Provence region is a mine of expertise in innovation in new technologies. And getting that message across is vital! Promoting the region’s potential and seizing opportunities for new partnerships are the two missions Provence Promotion has fixed for itself by participating in the French-Singapore Innovation Days being organized by Ubifrance and Singapore’s IDA (Infocomm Development Authority) on November 16-17, 2010 in Singapore.
A conference to highlight Provence’s assets
To present the region’s know-how, Provence Promotion, with contributions from experts, is organizing a conference on the theme “Provence, a French region at the forefront of innovation”.
Presentations by three multinationals and two competitive clusters (SCS – Secured Communicating Solutions and Optitec) are included in the program. The French National RFID Center, the only RFID certification body in France, is looking into setting up an ambitious partnership with its Singaporean counterpart with a view to sharing expertise. Regional start-ups specialized in NFC (Near Field Communication), mobile content and 3D image production will be testifying to the Provence region’s dynamic approach and of their wish to expand internationally, taking as a model the experience acquired over many years by French groups such as Gemalto and STMicroelectronics.
After each session, debates will be chaired by experts from the sector, Soft Venture and the Singaporean A-Star (Agency for Science, Technology and Research).
A program of targeted B to B meetings to foster new partnerships…
The conference day on November 15 will be followed by a day given over to a program of B to B meetings aimed at promoting exchanges.
These tailored meetings represent a real opportunity for Provence Promotion to create closer ties with local clusters and for the Provence companies looking to set up new partnerships. Among the clusters present will be the FUSIONOPOLIS media hub and A-STAR, both spearheads of Singaporean innovation.
...and make Provence a bridgehead for South-East Asia’s new technologies
If Singapore is a springboard to South-East Asian markets for French companies in the new technology sector, then Provence could well become a bridgehead for Asian businesses wishing to establish themselves in Europe, in particular for those wishing to develop and/or utilize “ready-to-use” R&D collaboration platforms.
The Provence region has developed a genuine expertise, positioning itself as a center of excellence in the fields of traceability, security and mobility with:
- The world-ranked SCS competitive cluster;
- Private and public-sector laboratories;
- Leading technology platforms;
- World-leading companies in the sectors of telecoms, smart cards, RFID, software, multimedia and electronic components
With these assets, there is no doubt that “Southern Europe’s Silicon Valley” will have a major role to play in the worldwide reshuffle to come.
