Grab your mobile phones! On Friday November 19, the Playground Festival will be organizing a ghost hunt in Marseilles city center. To join in, you will need an iPhone and to have downloaded the “Zombinade” game application from the Apple App Store.

A Trial Run for the Treasure Hunts Programmed for July 2011

After the success of the first try-out of the iPhone location-based game “The Messenger” in Marseille on September 18 last, this second event will be the occasion for a second test run before the Playground Festival to be held in July 2011 and which will include massive treasure hunts of all kinds across the city and other exciting strategy games, with lots of prizes to be won.

With a strong international theme and showcasing location-based video games, the Playground Festival 2011 is in a class of its own. Fifteen hundred players are expected to travel to Marseilles, not only to play on their iPhones but also to visit the city.

The event, designed by NCC, C4M and Hyptique, is supported by PACA LABS and the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and partnered by Provence Promotion, Marseilles City Council and Euroméditerranée. 

Mobile Content: A Provence Specialty

Over and above its entertainment aspect, the Playground Festival is a shop window for companies in the Bouches-du-Rhône département with an expertise in mobile applications and location-based video games.

NCC is a consultancy and marketing firm providing assistance with development projects for creative enterprises. Its founder, Maarten Noyons, is the creator of the International Mobile Gaming Awards.
C4M creates games and applications for mobile phones. The company is behind the free mobile game service playtomo.  Mathieu Castelli, founder of C4M, created MogiMogi, the first GPS community game, which was launched in Japan in 2004.
Hyptique’s expertise is in communication and interactive media. Pierre Lavoie, at the head of the company, is a pioneer in the field of interactive design and augmented and virtual reality.
