An international meeting for the development of offshore wind energy
How to counter CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and encourage investment in renewable energies? The FOWT 2020 exhibition aims to contribute to this by promoting the development of offshore floating wind turbines. The event will be held on 7 & 8 September 2020 at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille (south of France). The Covid-19 recommendations will naturally be applied and all conferences will be digitized to allow the largest number of people to attend. Marine renewable energy and the installation of floating offshore wind turbines is a path towards decarbonisation and energy efficiency, a challenge for the future.
Under the patronage of the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition, FOWT 2020 is jointly organized by the Mediterranean Sea Cluster, the Aix Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce and Industry and France Energie éolienne with the support of the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region.
800 participants are expected for this edition. The conferences will take place over two days (7 & 8 September 2020) with a third day exclusively virtual. They will focus on market development and the orientation of investments to support the floating offshore wind energy sector.
After several years of efforts in research and development, floating offshore wind is mature and entering an industrial phase. Various experiments in Europe have proven the efficiency of floating mast turbines such as those in France at Saint-Anne du Portzic or Le Croisic in 2018, Aguçadoura in Portugal in 2015 or Karmoy in Norway in 2009. Offshore installation improves their efficiency by taking advantage of stronger and more regular wind.
To demonstrate the progress made and the technological advantages acquired in terms of design, power and maintenance of a floating wind turbine, FOWT 2020 will give manufacturers a wide range of options.
The potential and commercial outlets of floating offshore wind turbines will be addressed through all the prisms of the sector:

The Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis and Provence Promotion will be present on a stand to present current projects and more broadly the energy sector in the region. A pilot park with 3 new-generation 8MW floating wind turbines is being installed with the Provence Grand Large project carried by EDF-EN in the Faraman area (Bouches-du-Rhône) 17 km off the coast of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône.
For participants, Provence Promotion offers BtoB meetings to discover business opportunities in Provence.
