Ever since its creation in 1993, the BIO International Convention -being held this year in Washington DC from June 27 to 30- has been the leading annual event for the biotechnology and life sciences sector, with 2000 exhibitors and 15,000 industry visitors recorded in 2010. With the steepening “patent cliff”, its significance has increased even, as it provides a link between the past and future of the industry. Indeed, this occurrence is due to impact many majors in the pharmaceutical industry, such as Sanofi, Roche and Novartis, that risk seeing half their product catalog disappear by 2015. Those companies in the fields of biotechnology and innovating therapies therefore represent the gateway to a new future.
